Theft & Fraudulent Use of Credit Cards
August 30, 2023
Marathon County Crime Stoppers is asking for your help identifying a person responsible for theft and fraudulent use of credit cards.
Back in February we told you about a distract and steal theft at TJ Maxx in the Town of Rib Mountain where a suspect distracts a customer while an accomplice steals their wallet from their purse then uses the credit cards to make unauthorized purchases a few minutes later.
We featured a similar theft in July of this year and now we have even more instances of this same type of theft occurring at TJ Maxx and the cards being used within minutes at the nearby Sams Club.
These individuals appear to be part of an organized crime ring doing these types of thefts across the state and likely in neighboring states as well. There were at least four thefts of this type in the rib mountain area between Thursday August 17th and Monday August 20th. The individuals appear to be the same as those from cases earlier this year.
Please use extra caution when shopping and only take what you need into a store and keep your valuables on your person. Don’t let someone distract you that you do not know and be aware of your surroundings and other people near you.
